THE SCAR-MANGLED BANNER
Oh, say have you seen
Flying once more at half mast
What once proudly we hailed
When besting tyrants blaspheming
Those broad stripes red and white
The field of blue and bright stars
Once so tightly arrayed
Coming apart at the seaming
And the hatred and lies,
Compassion casted aside
For fear that the dream
Might need us to swallow our pride
Oh, say does our scar-mangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
